Join the Columbia Land Conservancy, in celebrating International Women’s Day with local Author Andrea Barnet, as she reads from her new book Visionary Women.

Visionary Women: How Rachel Carson, Jane Jacobs, Jane Goodall, and Alice Waters Changed Our World (Ecco; On-sale March 13, 2018) is the story of four renegades who profoundly shaped the world we live in today. Together these women—linked not by friendship or field, but by their choice to break with convention—showed what one person speaking truth to power can do.

Dancing Through The Decades at The Falls, Mar 9

Dance the night away to your favorite decade. Dance will always have a major impact on history and the future. From the 1950s to the 2000s, music will forever be a way people can express themselves from many different cultures.

Every half hour, the music changes to a different decade. Dress from your favorite decade is encouraged, but not required.

Folktales and Stories, Mar 10


Pamela Badila, folkteller & performance artist, reads, tells and perform folktales from around the world with children and their families. This special story hour gives families the opportunity to explore stories, told through generations, that formed the traditions and ethics of particular cultures. Craft and music activities follow the folktelling.

Winter Wildlife Animal Tracking Hike at Mud Creek

The Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District (www.ccswcd.org) presents an animal tracking hike on Saturday (March 2, 2019). Hikers will look for signs of wildlife and learn about the natural history of local animals. The program begins at a brief instructional talk by Pamela Price, Certified Wildlife Biologist and Education Program Coordinator. Afterward, head out to the trail to use your new knowledge to spot tracks and traces left by rabbits, foxes, deer, and perhaps even a bobcat. The hike is a snow or no snow event!

“Columbia County Portraits” Part 2 of an Illustrated Lecture by Art Historian & Appraiser, Gayle Skluzacek, Feb 9

The Columbia County Historical Society presents “Columbia County Portraits” An Illustrated Lecture by Art Historian and appraiser, Gayle Skluzacek.

This is the 2nd of a two part lecture series, and will explore Columbia County portraiture, focusing on paintings from the Permanent Collection of the Columbia County Historical Society. Ms. Skluzacek is a classically educated art historian and appraiser. After working in curatorial, research, and public relations at the Minneapolis Institute of Fine Arts, the Chicago Art Institute, the Oriental Institute, and the Carnegie Institute, she began appraising in 1981. She has catalogued important collections, estates, and archives, identified lost masterpieces, served as an art/personal property expert in court cases, and has worked closely with major museums in their art acquisition programs.

Ms. Skluzacek served on the Board of Directors of the Appraisers Association of America and served as President, 2000-2002. She was presented with the Director’s Award for her services in 2015.

At The Crandell: ‘The Favourite’, ‘Amores Perros’ & ‘Mary Queen of Scots’

The Crandell Theatre Continues to bring movie-fans an increasing roster of diverse offerings. This weekend, there are two matinees with Amores Perrosplaying on Saturday, and Mary Queen of Scotson Sunday. The feature for the week is The Favourite.

The Favourite

A costumer drama unlike any other, that tied Roma with ten Oscar nominations. Backbiting, scabrous gossip, and palace intrigue flourish in early 18th century England, at war with France. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah Churchill governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. Olivia Colman won a Globe for her performance as Queen Anne. Also with Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos who gave us The Lobster.

Friends of the Hudson Area Library Book & Bake Sale, Feb 9 & 10

The Hudson Area Library‘s Friends of the Hudson Area Library will be hosting a Book and Bake Sale in the community room of the Library. This is a great opportunity to purchase new and gently used books on a variety of subjects, including art books as well as CDs and DVDs.

There will also be homemade baked desserts for sale during this event. So come out and support the library, get that unique book you’ve been looking for and didn’t know it, enjoy a baked good, and support the Hudson Area Library!
